The Pilates Method is a unique form of exercise founded by Joseph Pilates, born in 1880 which focuses on proper breathing, on the spine, the body as a whole, the mind and on the muscles that stabilize the posture and joints. They are the pelvic floor muscles, the transverses abdominals, rectus abdominals, erector muscles, latissimus dorsi, quadratus, luborum, glutes, internal obliques, external obligues and even intercostals muscles. The torso muscles are used to maintain our physical balance and are referred to as our core. As we learn how to strengthen these muscles, our bones begin to align correctly, our posture begins to get better, our coordination is improved, we breathe productively, we are stronger, we become leaner, and we feel more energetic. Because the proper muscles are used and mental focus becomes so strong, results are obtained without strenuous and painful effort.

The Pilates Method demonstrates how the body and mind work together. An insight develops of imbalances becoming balanced and of weaknesses becoming stronger. We can feel our progress. We learn how to utilize our core without even thinking about it. By learning how to expand different parts of our lungs, our chest opens to allow productive breathing. Proper physical alignment is reached by mental focusing.
